Our New Classroom Furniture!

Our new furniture has finally arrived!! Yay!! We were all very excited watching the truck pull up today carrying all our exciting new tables and chairs. We now have 2 high tables, 4 medium tables that all connect together and we also have a bunch of brightly coloured lily pad cushions to use too!

Here is a preview of our new layout...

Introducing our new class pets!

Today we were very excited to welcome two new class members to Room 18!

We are going to be taking extra care with our new whanau members. We will feed them twice a day, keep their tank clean and we will measure them every week to make sure they are growing as they should be.

Here are our new friends, Sunset (goldfish) and Shadow (bluefin):

Charlie D's poem

Charlie D has been doing some extra writing at home and has written some amazing poems. Here is one of his masterpieces:

A best friend is someone who you can trust and talk to
Who wants you everyday, someone you will like
And someone who will make you happy.

Brodie's amazing holiday!

Today Brodie shared his amazing photos with the class. He had spent his summer holidays on a cruise! We were all very jealous and loved hearing all about his journey around the Pacific Islands. We especially liked his video of him snorkeling, it was like we were there with him! Here are some photos we loved getting to see...

Getting to know each other - with Stephanie!

Today Stephanie ran an activity to help us get to know one another even better. We had to write down 2 truths and 1 lie about ourselves. Then the rest of the class had to guess which statement was the lie! It was a lot harder than you think!

Here are some fun facts we learnt:
- Abigail doesn't like sneakers
- Stephanie is a singer!
- Logan likes cats
- Isaac has A LOT of animals at his house
- Miss T used to do Irish dancing
- Charlie P doesn't like baseball

Sharing our learning in Reading

Today Isaac, Charlie P, Isaiah and Luca all shared their awesome posters they had created during Reading time. They worked diligently to get these finished and shared some wicked new learning with the class.

Today we set some goals for our learning journey in 2016. Mrs Hurdle was in Room 18 and helped us all to set some goals that we look to achieve in the near future.

We look forward to sharing these with you at Meet the Teacher night in Week 3!

What does it mean to be an Upper Middle student...

Today we talked about what it means to an Upper Middle Student. Miss T was very impressed with all our ideas and we are now working hard to show that we can put these ideas into actions.

Here are some of our ideas:
- live who you are
- if someone is speaking, you are listening
- it's ok to make mistakes because we learn from them
- you have to encourage others
- little kids will watch what we do so be sensible
- use your WITs and be brave
- you have to accept other people because it doesn't matter what they look like
- be a role model to the juniors
- you have to respect others by treating them how we want to be treated
- respect teacher by doing what we are told
-respect the ideas of others
- try your best

El Gregoe - You have the power to make a difference!

Today we were very lucky to enjoy a magic show performed by El Gregoe! This was a very special magic show though as it taught us all about creating a bully-free zone!

We learnt about having respect, being responsible, accepting others, having courage and keeping our integrity. We learnt that hands are for helping not for hurting. Most importantly we learnt that WE have the power to make a difference for ourselves and those around us.

El Gregoe was very talented as well, he even levitated! We are still trying to work out how he did it!
